Addiction – Chico DeBarge (14 July 2009)
Chico DeBarge’s fresh July 14, 2009 record album Addiction already available. His name is sounds familiar?, Yup, you’re right. He is a younger brother of the group DeBarge (who you might remember sang mostly in falsetto and had some hits in the 80s). Chico brought out a self-titled album back in
1986 but, unfortunately, his life since then has been rough He went to jail on drug charges in the 1990s and then was stabbed outside of a nightclub in
it’s nice to see that he’s trying to begin his life back on track with this new album. After listening to the preview, I can see that it truly is about addiction. In the opening track, Chico is heard attending a self-help addiction meeting where he says that he’s a “recovering addict.”
I was agreeably surprised by the tracks. At times, it kinda reminded me of the sound D’Angelo had on his Brown Sugar album. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but I think it’s a good and great comeback effort by DeBarge.
